John Rose is a musician and composer from Lexington, Kentucky known for his ambient and space music. His work spans modern classical piano, dreamy Berlin School soundscapes, and music for therapy and meditation.
Over his career, John has recorded more than 20 albums, both as a solo artist and as a member of the acclaimed space music trio, Spacecraft. Billboard Magazine praised Spacecraft for their excellence in the genre, and their track "Earthtime Tapestry" was featured in the film Vanilla Sky.
John began his piano studies with Eugene Maupin at Transylvania University and later studied under concert pianist Teresa Garbulinska Saykaly. His explorations in experimental electronica and space music expanded his compositional range, leading to notable solo albums like "Rainsongs" and "Cosmogenesis."
John has also collaborated with artists such as Tony Gerber and Hans Joachim Roedelius, enhancing his impact on the space music scene. His work with Spacecraft led to performances in unique venues like planetariums, where his live, improvised soundscapes were accompanied by space visuals.
Critics have hailed John’s contributions as “masterpieces of ambient space music,” earning him recognition from publications like Wind and Wire. Outside of music, John enjoys studying languages, exploring nature, and having coffee-and-philosophy sessions with his daughter, Claire. He also loves spending time with his partner, Julie, visiting waterfalls, cemeteries, and abandoned spaces.
